You guys asked for it, so here it is! New house update coming at ya!

First of all, I could write for days and days and days if you wanted a full process view of the house building. Since I'm not going to bore you with every little detail, I thought I would start with some of the "big" decisions we had to make and why we made them!

I'll start with the exterior....specifically, the "vibe" of the exterior! I originally wanted a very "farmhouse" styled home with wood accents and the whole 9 years. However, my lovely husband reminded me that we are not living on a farm....nor are we living on a lot of land....if fact, we built our house in a neighborhood. So, I decided to go more modern looking with farmhouse pieces. For example, I knew I wanted a white home. We added different widths and different directions of the siding to give it a farmhouse look. The front of the house has thicker, vertical siding, while other parts have thinner and horizontal siding. Then, I KNEW I wanted a black front door. So, we found one that had windows in it to also add to the farmhouse look. We made the glass frosted so no one can physically see through our front door because I'm a psycho and scared of everything, lol. We decided on the stone because to be honest, the house needed some depth. A plain white house is gorgeous, but it lacked something. The stone we added was the lightest we could find. I also wanted a "warmer" stone because it made the house feel homier!

Now to the inside! The interior was also originally going to be very Joanna Gaines- looking. However, when I looked at different flooring and cabinet options, I realized I didn't want the cookie cutter white cabinets and the super trendy kitchen look. Instead, I went for a more "rustic" kitchen - which I am now OBSESSED with. We went with knotty alder cabinets with a very natural/light stain. It has just the tiniest hint of gray tones in there as well! We went with a similar color for the flooring, but slightly darker to bring out the knots from the wood in the cabinets! I DID decide to go with a white kitchen island and white countertops because otherwise I felt like there was soooo much wood. Our doors (which people are freaking out about on instagram!! in a good way, lol) are the same exact wood as our cabinets. I was also super insistent that my cabinets and my doors have zero gloss. This was something that my builder was "iffy" about because (I guess) doors usually have a glossy look to them. I did not want that because I knew that I wanted that rustic feel. I'm soooo happy I went with my gut! Next up, I went with all matte black fixtures pretty much everywhere. I did black lanterns outside, I did black accents on the garage door, black handles on the doors, and a few black floating shelves. I wanted the black in there because to be honest, I was sick of all the navy in my previous home lol! I wanted to give black a try! I'm super pumped about the floating shelves. I actually told my dad (who is helping with a ton of the trim) that the floating shelves were my favorite part of the kitchen.....he rolled his eyes.

Lastly, the layout! We knew we wanted a rambler for a couple of reasons. First of all, we realized that in our old house, we spent almost every single second of the day on the top floor and NEVER went downstairs, lol. So it totally seemed like wasted space. The second reason is that my husband has multiple sclerosis. Hopefully, it will never come down to this, but sometimes this disease causes people to be in a wheelchair for either temporary periods of time or full-time. We wanted to make sure that the layout of the home we would be in for a long time would be suitable for that! I was also very, very into the idea of a completely open concept. I literally wanted everything to be seen from the kitchen. I even thought I wanted windowed doors on the master bedroom! Lol, thankfully, Ty talked me out of that. We went full open concept for the kitchen, dining, and living room. It's a big open space with one side being the hallway to the kids' bedrooms and one side being the master bed/bath/closet situation. This way, my kiddos can come running across the main area (and not up or down stairs) to our bedroom on Saturday mornings <3

I promise to give you guys a closer look into the different rooms of the house, but for now, I hope this was helpful!
